Hero Tribute

Welcome everyone...many of you know that once in awhile I like to take a side road. Today we drive down that side road. Everyone
in life must come face to face with yourself. That's the "who am I."
A life defining moment. Awards, plaques and trophies are great...but in the end, the one award that really matters...What kind of person was I? What kind of person am I? Each day for the past 10 years I add another "hero" to my list. My passion for most of my
life has focused on people with disabilities. Why is it that people with less, accomplish more. People with less skill, physically and/or mentally challenged accomplish more than "normal" people.
Today I will pay tribute to three of my heroes. First, my late father. At age 16, his father died. He had to take over their dairy farming business. My father's life changed in an instant. He refused to drop
out of high school...he graduated. He became one of the most
successful farmers in the entire area. My father had many "sayings." I will share two with you..."whenever you get on a horse
make sure you are facing the front." "If you perform a good deed for someone expecting a thank you, you are doing it for the wrong
reasons." Next, Kyle Maynard...born with congenital amputee. No
arms, no legs. Recently climbed Mt Kilimanjaro. His speech, "No
Excuses." Next, Charolette Brown, Texas. Blind. Competes in track
and field. Sprinter/pole vault. In pole vault, seven steps and plant.
We can learn a lot about people with less. I am still learning.
Have a meaningful life everyone...Jimmy O
