HELLO AND WELCOME EVERYONE! First, an update regarding one of my fitness classes, "balance your life." Anyone following my blogs over the past six weeks knows that I refer to the women in my classes as the "miracle girls." Enrollment numbers are going through the roof. These senior women bring enthusiasm, a great attitude and fun. Seven classes in four different towns. It's alive! It's showtime! It's living the dream! So, to these women, thank you!
VIEWPOINT...mental fitness. Last week we started talking about the importance of the mental part of exercise and fitness. The "mental' is fundamental in anything worthwhile we do in life.
Doing the things we like to do requires little discipline. The things we need to do and don't want to do demands the practice of discipline. BEING MENTALLY ready to face the task at hand is
key. Athletes at any age and any level of competition for the most part, are about equal in
physical abitity. The difference...mental preparation. We either cultivate toughness or allow for
softness. In most cases, the challenge is not the competition, it is ourselves. Mental fitness
is the front wheel if the bicycle, it gets you to where you want to go. Physical fitness is the hind
wheel, it's the driving force to where you are going. Your mindset puts you in the winner's
circle or keeps you out. Winners always meet at the finish line!
Have a great and meaningful life everyone! Jimmy O

SENIOR FITNESS CHALLENGE!!!
HELLO AND WELCOME EVERYONE! I believe that everyone is faced with at least one challenge in their lifetime...the moment of challenge is the moment of truth. We are defined by those moments. Perhaps my greatest challenge was surviving prostate cancer. However, each week, my workout partner and I challenge "bunker hill." Thirty yards with an elevation of ten yards. This workout is every wednesday for 90 minutes, 5 sets of:
1) sprinting forward
2) sprinting backward
3) plyometric hops (both feet at a time)
4) plyometric hops ( one foot at a time)
5) high knee lifts, springing off the ground as high as you can (highfliers)
6) spinning 180's for ten yards
7) squats and leaps, holding an 8 pound ball, squat and and fire upward off the
ground lifting the ball high overhead.
8) cool down with five sprints for 50 yards at 65% of capacity.
9) stretch for 20 minutes.
One side note..I had a request to talk with and teach a group of 7th and 8th grade athletes about load and explode...speed bursts, and foot work. That was the highlight of my day. Thanks guys.

SENIOR FITNESS CHALLENGE
HELLO AND WELCOME EVERYONE! I have often thought that perhaps we (seniors) let the word "old " get in our way.... of getting fit, getting in shape, having fun and reaching a healthy life style. We need to replace the words "I can't" with "I can." WE CAN AGE, BUT WE DON'T HAVE TO GET OLD! Put goals back in our life. CHALLENGE ourselves to reach out and take a bigger bite out of life. Each day I ask myself this question; "what are my physical limits?" I am finding out that I can actually do more than I thought I could. Get a stop watch. Use it when walking, running or sprinting. Do more push ups and sit ups. Finding our "limits" is a wonderful and exciting journey! In everything we do, reach out for more, set the bar higher. Greet each challenge with a smile. Remember the roads to fitness, better health, and a better life will always be under construction.
