When? NOW!
Welcome everyone...let's get started. Everyone says, "I'm going to start working out, or training, or lose weight, or..." Yah, but when? Stop with all those 'blue sky goals.' You want to be somewhere, the toughest step is the first step...START. So, let's start. We want to align your body...balance is key. At the office, sit on an exercise ball instead of an office chair. Your waistline should be at the same height as the desk top. Just for five min. twice a day. Inside of a one week you will feel a better, stronger balance. Your stomach muscles will begin to tighten. Practice taking deeper breaths. Inside of three weeks, you will do away with the office chair. All future writings (weekly) I will add another tip. www.secondwindfitnessfilm.com

Change is Critical
Welcome everyone and let's get started...change of seasons always brings new life and spirit. Some sports are writing the final chapter, while others are just getting out of the box. Re, your practice drills, sequence, timing and time of day...what have you changed, added or deleted. Remember previous seasons...you had 1, 2, 3 areas to improve,. Did you take care of that "home work?" Well, your next event will demand to see your home work. This is the ideal time to take care of those (areas to work on) now...with muscle confusion drills. Change those bad habits before they get worse. When drills become mechanical, boredom sets in, then 'rigormortis.' Change that. Bring on your best year ever. Get started with discipline. . The Inner Game
Hello and welcome everyone...Competing against others is one game. Competing against yourself the other game...thee game. Whether you are in competition or not, You always compete vs. yourself. Challenge yourself. The INNER game. Be aware of where you and who you are. Be aware of the "moment" and movement...be instinctive. Things change from training/practice to the "heat of the battle." Isolate your thoughts to the "NOW." The big 3...awareness, commitment and trust...trust in yourself is key to winning.

Climb vs Downhill
Hello and welcome everyone...lots of positive response to the last few blogs. And requests for more on Mental Toughness and how to acquire it. In my experience and the experience of many others, acquiring mental toughness, that challenge presents itself daily. You either climb up mentally or slide down...that's giving up. If you can increase mental toughness by 1% you will overcome fear,
negativity and anxiety. You write the script. Visualize yourself as
already being there. Create a word, or phrase or motto...mine is NOW. "Don't let go of the rope." Success doesn't come at us like a
water falls...it comes at us one drop at a time. And one fails a little
at a time. Grip the rope.

AB Challenge
Hello and welcome everyone...if you want a challenge for working
your abs, read the following. I do not believe in situps or crunches.
Those two just roll the fat around...you must tighten the stomach
muscles. 1) sitting upright, legs straight, hands outside your legs,
slowly lean back until you are at 90 degress and hold for count of
25. 5 sets. 2) Lay flat on floor with elbows under you shoulders and
raise up on your toes w/elbows on floor and hold for count of 25.
Five sets. 3) Hanging from bar overhead, come up and extend fingers past your toes and hold for count of 25. Ten sets. 4) Jumping, hands waist high, as you jump bend knees and touch hands...jump 30 times in 15 sec. 5 sets. 5) Carry 10 pound weight
and hold out in front of you running up an incline of 10 yards or
stairs of 20 or more steps. Five sets. Work these drills 3X a week.
After drills, sprint 50m three times. This workout is the belly buster. Next week...one more tough drill.

The BURST!!!
Hello and welcome everyone...this is the 4th in a series of eight blogs. Today we concentrate on the "burst." No matter what sport or competitive event, whether team or individual, you need the "burst." The burst is different than having a "kick." In my "Webster," the kick applies to running long distance, biking, or
skating/skiing, swimming...all long distance, over 400m. The burst
applies to sprints, T&F, racquet sports, X Games, endurance and
body building (weight lifting). My apologies if I missed your sport.
For the past one dozen years, I have used the word "NOW: as my
mental igniter. When I say the word NOW aloud, that triggers GO.
90% of my sprint drills demand the NOW command. My brain,
my body responds to that command. Example...200m, load and explode out of the blocks. That's the first "burst." All out for the
first 20m and then I pull back to 90% capacity for 80m. With
100m to go, my next NOW, with 40m to go, my next NOW, and
with 10m my final NOW. All bursts of additional speed. Arms,
legs are fluid...reaching. Remember...the faster you move your arms, the faster your legs will move...count on it! My training, drills...from 30m to 400m, including uphill sprinting...I practice
"BURSTS." Even in the high jump and long jump. The word NOW
has been the catalyst for all of my gold medals. Never underestimate the power of your mind.

2 MINUTE WARNING
Happy Easter and welcome everyone...received great feedback regarding last week's blog. I share what I do in my workouts and
what I learn from other competitors and coaches. Follow up too
last week's blog, The Gap. This week...Two Minute Warning. Many
years ago my doctor told me that if I workout for 20 minutes, "it's
the last 2 minutes that really count." I never forgot that and I apply
that to my training. I will add, "it's the start and finish." The start,
begins "in your mind" long before you actually start your event. The 2 minute warning...2 minutes to go in your event...in your
training...push it!!! You fight through fatigue and other adversities.
For every 30 minutes of working out, I include a 2 minute warning,
"the push." So, my 90 minute workout includes 3 two minute
segments. I program my brain. Also, in every event, when I have to
"kick" I whisper the word "now." You can't eliminate hunger, pain,
thirst, fatigue or most any other adversity...you RISE ABOVE IT.
The word "now" and the "2 minute warning" are a major part of
my mental training. Final thought, don't waste your time on the
negative...you waste your energy. RISE ABOVE.

NOW
Hello and welcome everyone...one week away from my next competition. Track and Field (5events) and pickleball. The butterflies began flying two weeks ago. Amazing to me how the intangibles play such a important role in our success. Some athletes will have thoughts "I hope I can get through this." That is not a winning thought. I think thoughts of winning. I see myself in each event. I "play" each event over and over again. I see myself winning. I begin to act and behave as though I am already there. First to the Finish Line...where winners and survivors always meet.
