SENIOR OLYMPICS COUNTDOWN

Hello and welcome everyone! Yes, it's that time. Two more weeks for fine tuning. The caution...
do not "over train." I hope I am peaking at the right time; hope the 12 hours a week in training
pays off. Imagine, 12 hours a week for 50 weeks. The investment of time and energy is
enormous and at times taxing. Now I am really focused on "the day." Every minute of the day
I am thinking about getting into the blocks and exploding toward the finish line. This week I will
sprint( 5) 100m, (5) 200m, (5) 400m, (10) HJ and (10) LJ. Next week, only warmups and
focus on my mental toughness. The MENTAL now becomes MY PRIORTY! Cancer survivors
names will be sewed on my warmup jacket. My cell phone will be off as well as the computer.
This is another of LIFE'S DEFINING MOMENTS...at least it is for me and all the cancer
survivors. This is what I have lived for this past year. The time is now!

WHAT'S YOUR FITNESS IQ?!

Hello and welcome everyone! I get somewhat nauseous when "scorecards" become the focus of
fitness and training and workouts. No matter what level of fitness you are at, your "lifestyle IQ"
will determine what value you place on YOUR HEALTH. That scorecard you filled out at the local gym or club will be placed in the "where is it file." Your lifestyle IQ is determined by your
value system: 1) mental preparation 2) consult your physician 3) what are my limitions
4) when will I workout and where 5) diet...you are what you eat 6) what are my needs 7) why
am I doing this 8) why do I need to do this. To get there...start here! Remember, a mountain
climber does not start just to go half way...the climber is determined to reach the top. Excuses
are for quitters. Find a way to get it done! The rewards...new energy! Reduce ugly stress! Look
and feel younger! Your lifestyle IQ makes all the difference in your future. I gaurantee it!

"FIRST to the FINISH LINE" for survivors

Hello and welcome everyone! The date...Friday, June 12, 2009. I had the honor of speaking to
cancer survivors and care givers. An estimated crowd of 2,000 attended. This was a very
emotional and humbling experience for me. This marked the second time I have spoken publicly
regarding my fight against cancer. The energy from the crowd was awsome...I could feel it!
No one was "giving in" to cancer or "giving up the fight." COURAGE and HOPE are the two
words that come to mind in describing the face of the people in attendance. This experience will
live within me for the rest of my life.
I am more motivated than ever to compete in the 2009 Senior Olympics. The "face" of the
crowd will be etched in my mind for every event. I am so thankful that I have the health to
compete. My mission...make the most of it. Be at my best throughout..."First to the FINISH LINE" burns in my every fiber. The challenge that lies ahead for me is minuscule compared to
the challenge facing some of those in attendance on Friday. My challenge is not a burden...
it is a "calling." A calling that I accept. Whatever measure of success I achieve is a gift to those
that cannot.

" THE SPRINT FOR LIFE " for cancer survivors

Hello and welcome everyone! Four weeks to go before the Senior Olympics...which means three
weeks left for serious training. Yesterday, I spent one hour practicing the high jump. Today,
time trials in the 100m and 200m. Three 200s and 100s. Each training session for the next
three will be scripted and followed to the letter. This is where FOCUS AND MENTAL FITNESS
comes into play...from getting into the starting blocks to the lean at the finish line. Many of you already know how special this year is for me. I will have the names of cancer survivors on my
warm up jacket. This is for me and other survivors... the SPRINT FOR LIFE. I have a great support group and can't let anyone down. I want to motivate Seniors and cancer survivors that
life is not over. Fate is what life gives you, destiny is what you do with it.
