"LET'S REVIEW" WINNER or quitter

Hello and welcome everyone! Thank you readers! I received several emails commenting on
my blog of last week...IMPACT for sucess. Also, I started to Twitter. You can find my listing
under jimmyofitness. Well, it's that time of year...runners are everywhere. That is a great scene.
Let's address some commonly asked questions by athletes..." how can I get faster, how can I cut my time, how can I increase my stamina, my endurance?" "what should my diet be like," and one last one..." how do I acquire MENTAL FITNESS?" There is no simple answer to any of
those questions. However, let's start with...DON'T JUMP to a quick fix! Whether you exercise
for competitive events or you want to live a healthier life style, be careful about being
impulsive regarding a changing or adding to your routine. So, a wise person once told me,
" Jimmy O, let's get back to basics."
1) let's review your notebook
2) let's review your posture
3) let's review your technique
4) let's review your breathing
5) let's review your workout habits
6) let's review your mental fitness...do you knock down mental barriers or do you quit on
yourself.
7) do you visualize yourself winning or quitting.
Conclusion...examine where you are now and where you want to be. Remember, just working
out and going through motions is not enough. CHALLENGE YOURSELF! "IT" belongs to
winners.

I M P A C T for success!!!

Hello and welcome everyone! Some of you aready are aware that I have been involved in
motivational speaking for quite some time. My audiences are a cross section on youth, blue
collar, corporate executives, Seniors and chairitable organizations as well as civic groups. Over
the years my speeches evolved from the word IMPACT. I will share an abbreviated version.
The IMPACT that you make in life will be in direct proportion to your own self image.
I.....is for image, self image. The who am I and what am I all about
M...is for maturity. How do handle the tough things in life, the detours and the roadblocks.
P....is for purpose in life. It is more than setting goals; it's a passion, a vision. We accomplish
things in life when we see ourselves as already being there. We begin to act and behave
as though we are already there.
A...is for attitude...a positive frame of mind. "I want to be the best of me most of the time.
C...is for courage. Living our value system, not lowering our standards. Often, we have to
stand alone. Leaders stand outside the box. It is lonely at the top.
T...is for touch, the human touch. Reach out to people. Everyone deserves at least one hug
each day.
IMPACT...the impact we make in life is what defines one's life.

JIMMYO'S ENERGY TIP!!! START NOW!

Hello and welcome everyone! Well, as promised, this week we will explore the value of "home
remedies" for aches and pains. There are many natural ways to help us enjoy a healthier life
style. Pineapple and cinnamon helps fight inflammation. Sweet pickle works great against heart
burn and acid reflex. Leg cramps wake you up at night...place a bar of soap at the foot of the bed
between the matress pad and the bottom sheet. You will now sleep better. BANANAS...do not
put bananas in the refrigerator!!! Bananas contain three natural sugars...sucrose, fructose and
glucose with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy. Two
bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90 minute workout. That's not all...the
banana fight depression. The banana contains tryptophan, a type of protein that the body
converts into serotonin, known to make you relax and improve your mood. Also contains
vitamin B6 and helps regulate blood glucose levels. High in iron and helps fight anemia. High in
potassium and low in salt to beat high blood pressure. Boosts your brain power. Ever hear: "eat
your veggies."
DARK GREENS...payoff: better lung health, stronger bones and immune system, lower blood
pressure.
ORANGE VEGGIES...payoff: better vision, blood sugar control, high in cancer fighting cartenoids.
BEANS...payoff: lower rates of heart disease, high blood pressure, breast and colon cancer and type 2 diabetes.
STARCHY VEGGIES...payoff:contains vitamins A, C, and B6.
CAUTION: when in doubt, consult your physician.
HEALTHY EATING will improve your fitness workouts.

YOUR FITNESS Q&A

Hello and welcome everyone! Today, let's try and answer questions or concerns from you the
reader.
Your questions:
1) how can I gain better balance? start by walking around the house in your stocking feet. Then walk on your toes for about 10 seconds at least 3 times a day. While standing on your toes,
close your eyes. Not so easy, is it. We have more strength on the inside of our foot than the
outside. Get an exercise ball, 75cm or 85 cm. Use the ball while watching TV, at your desk and
at your computer. Women from my "balance your life" class have replaced the chair with the exercise ball at work and home. As your balance improves, lift one foot off the floor. Alternate which foot stays on the floor for a minute or two. By strengthening your core muscles you will gain better balance. You will notice an improvement from this daily exercise within 3 days!
2) how important is breathing? Proper breathing, posture and technique present the
foundation of all exercises. Exhale at points of resistance. Deep breathing is a must. As we age
we tend to take shorter breaths. Practice deep breathing. Inhale and hold for at least 10
seconds several times a day. Get that TOXIC OXYGEN out of your system.
5) what about supplements and what should I take? Caution first. The FDA has ordered
Hydroxicut to be removed from the stores. This supplement was designed to get rid of the
tummy fat. It was harmful to your body. Diet pills, a multi Billion dollar a year business...
very dangerous to your body. In our quest for a beautiful body, we are putting poison in our
system. The side effects are very harmful. My suggestion... consult your physician. Ask
yourself...why do I want to take a supplement in the first place? You may need a supplement,
however, do your home work. Remember, in life there is no dress rehearsal. Don't take a
chance. I tell my clients to start with healthy eating first. We are what we eat. Exercise is
vital, with or without supplements. A healthy lifestyle does not cost, it pays. Oh, by the way,
olive oil should be a daily supplement. Next week, some home remedies for aches and pains.
To all the moms...Happy Mother's Day!

get "IT', get 'IT!"

Hello and welcome everyone! Where does the time go? It's May already! Here is a "gut check,"
what did I accomplish last month? How is my fitness program coming along? Here is a test...
write down the things you accomplished last month. Then write down the things you did not
accomplish. Oh oh! Time to "retool." A VIEWPOINT...fitness and conditioning programs tend to get caught up in a numbers game. We attach a number to each exercise; like 10 or 15 and so on.
Some of us are in a hurry to work the stopwatch. Others, who exercise on a track will pick out a certain spot on the track and feel if they get to that spot they are doing well. That practice is
"mind conditioning" in reverse. We are training our brain to STOP at that point. Brain stops...
body stops. Reverse mental conditioning ruins alot of athletes. We become our worst enemy.
CHANGE IT NOW! Increase your numbers from time to time. Don't stop (quit) at the same spot
on the track or when road training. Proper mental conditioning should make us better not worse.
For whatever reason, this past week I did not feel like going through my training routine. But I
forced myself to do it. I had my best workouts. MENTAL TOUGHNESS! Ever hear people say
"he or she has got it!" We should strive for IT.
