#My 21st annual letter

My theme as we approach a new year...Phoenix...Mythical bird, known for rising from it's ashes. Serves as a symbol of renewal & rebirth. For the past decade I have focused on delivering speeches re leadership to a cross section on audiences. Warren Buffet, "leadership requires intelligence, initiative, energy, integrity." We have identified the problems...now it's time (past due) to walk the walk. Enough of the riots, mud slinging and "in fighting." A waste on energy. The renewal and rebirth bell has tolled. Dead End

Hello and welcome everyone...if you have arrive at a dead end, you are not alone. So many are living w/ "is this all there is? Doesn't it ever get any better? AGING

Hello and welcome everyone ..no matter what age you are today...tomorrow you are a day older. You can age, but you don't have to get old. As a consultant, I remind my clients of "you can age, but you don't have to get old." Balance and muscle toning become more important...healthy and beneficial. You and I want a body we can be proud of and "show off." I have my clients of all ages, compete v. younger athletes, annual physical w/nutritional blood test, take stock of your "med cabinet," and all supplements. One cannot listen to their body, if they disguise it with meds/supps. Aging should be a process v. abrupt change. Evolve in your life. You will be younger than those who are younger. THANKSGIVING

Welcome everyone...to friends, neighbors, readers and followers. Thank you for loyalties. 2021 marks the 20th year of my mailing a Thanksgiving  letter...my favorite holiday since my age 4-5. No fancy wrapping paper with "what the h*&l is it? No gadgets, envy, politics...oh, the menu...friendship, love, hugs, laughs, memories and a prayer. And of course, turkey with all the trimmings. It's a day about sharing our feelings. You can't put feelings on a slide rule, in fractions or a score board. This special day is about "I like me best when I'm with you." See, a friend is someone who likes you even after they get to know you. People will forget what you said, what you did, or what you were wearing...but, they will never forget how you made them feel. So often, we never know the person we had an impact on or the person who had an impact on us. I value my roots...I remember when common sense was a generational "hand me down." So, come on in, we have plenty of room, even for strangers. Aaahaa, the menu offers plenty of  2nds and 3rds. Wishing all of you the very best Thanksgiving and a blessing from above. Jimmy O

The Frontier

Welcome everyone...the unknown is the frontier...and always will be. What, how much, what kind, when, and is it right for me, how much. Let's start here...injuries. There is an onslaught of injuries at any level of competitive sport. Why? 1) warm ups, pathetic...what I see, more suitable for ballet, not a knock on ballet...watch their warm ups. You will learn something. 2) warm up motion should be the same as in combat. 3) at least an hour the higher up the ladder you compete...you should work up a sweat. What's your intake of supplements? STOP       guessing. Most people have an intake of 9% to 15%. proteins as am energy source if carb and fat are inadequate. The "smart" do not know how much protein you should take. If protein ingested it is either for energy or converted to fat. Eating excessive amount of protein or carbs...can increase body fat So...have a blood test and tell your primary doctor what you want to accomplish. Muscle Memory/Muscle Confusion

 Welcome everyone...over the next few writings we will cover 1) speed drills 2) body building 3) proper stretching, warm up, cool down. 4) Nutrition 5) Balance. We will start with Balance. 2003 I designed  and facilitated Balance Your Life...seminars and classes. Several mediums in medical field have intergraded segments of my program into theirs, all ages. Athletes, who attended my summer camps could not do certain exercises...to their astonishment. The art of acquiring functional balance (discipline) at any level is a key element for attaining and maintaining your maximum performance and reaching your goals. All of us have asked the question "how can I get better/" Balance is your ladder to climb upward. Through this Progression, you are training the brain, then the muscles...thus, achieving the Psychological  Moment.  The time when a person is most apt to react in the desired manner. FAT Burners

 Welcome everyone...first off, thank you. The 10/11 post was the most read post since 1/1/03. The belly...the jelly. Seems like no matter what we do to rid fat, your belly is still FAT. Lets fix that Ready...apple cider vinegar, avocado, water melon, asparagus, beans white kidney, blue berry, chilli peppers, eggs, salmon, tuna, grapes, Greek yogurt, green tea, leafy greens, milk, almonds, pine nuts, walnuts. olive oil. And exercise. Do more stretching. Flat on your back, holding an 8 lb. medicine ball, arms straight up and drop. 10 X, 5 sets. 3 X a week. Check back in 3 weeks. Jimmy O

A Breath Ahead (2)

 Welcome everyone...Oxygen con't. IMT...inspiratory muscle training, strengthens the muscles that one uses to breath. When these muscles are strengthened regularly for a period of a few weeks they adapt, becoming stronger and being able to work longer. Initial training with a power breather, in a seated or standing position (don't slump). I have a stop watch at my side. With or w'out a breather...practice and develop your breathing exercise. Think what this can do for you...whether you are a competitor in events or involved in a basic fitness routine. You will be able to train longer and harder...have more energy to reach the finish line first. You won't poop out in that last 200 m. or the last 30 sec. PEAK PERFORMANCE/Staying a Breath Ahead (2)

Welcome everyone...intro, will begin with the personal.  About a year ago I began to feel different. No appetite, very little energy, tired, took naps, light headed, balance prob. Had Covid 19 shot and booster a few months prior. Finally went to ER and had dozens of tests...8 blood draws. Was there for 8 hours. Could find nothing. Was tested for Covid 19...negative. Next day went to my doctor...more test. Result...low on oxygen. Functioning on 85%-90% lung capacity. Now back to 100%. That's what drove me to research and apply findings to my oxygen problem. Oxygen and blood the "gas and oil" of the body...igniter. Lets dig in. Stay a breath ahead...get to know the fundamental, essential of life.  YES...new series...and let's get at it. Peak Performance requires us to understand the why, the how, the when. This series is centered "On Demand." Fix it

Hello and welcome everyone...rehab is no fun. Guessing game...should I or not. Weather you compete or just walking, most therapists' agree that one must keep blood flow to the area of "hurt." Message and light stretching are a must. Help in healing...moat "over the counter" meds fall short. Here are two of mine...for acute pain, Arnicare. For chronic pain, Wintergreen. # Home Brewed

Hello and welcome everyone...no money to invest in work out equipment? Listen up. Participants in my fitness/training classes confess...spent 1000's and never even opened up the boxes. Equipment is a multi Billion a year business. You don't have to spend any $$$. Let's take a look. 1) look around where you reside...old tires, put some concrete mix in them, let it harden for 48 hours. Flip in over and over again for 10m. On the way back w/rope tied to the tire and other end around your chest or waist and sprint back 10m. 2) perhaps there is an old huge tractor tire around and weighs over 50 lbs. 3) Tie one or two concrete blocks  to your bike and ride 400m. or more. 4) Loop a rope around a tree or other fixed object, Loop rope hand, arms out stretched, lean back and pull until you are upright. 3 sets, 10 to each set. 5) Push ups w/someone putting pressure on your back. Tale of the Tape

 Welcome everyone...sports produces that "tape measure" on everything The players and fans are glued to the tape. Question? Are you tracking your results v. effort? If not, you have very little on where you are at. Guessing, assuming, hope are not strategies for arriving at your 'Peak Performance.' Track reps, type, time, results. What do you want to accomplish, results expected, results achieved equals degree of efficientcy. It isn't amount of time spent...it's about how, why, results. When I prepare for the 100m. event, I break it down...1) block explosion, 1st 3m. Over and over again to attain results expected. Time. 2) Explosion 1st 5m. Time. 3) 1st 10m. Time. 4) 1st 40m. time. 5) At 80m. time. 6) at 90m. time. 7) At 103m. Time. I train at 103m. No quit. Every segment is analyzed. I have to at full bore at 10m. I am 5'7" 147lbs. I have to turn more revolutions per meter than someone six foot. I apply the same thing in my prep for the 200m. I my disadvantage into a strength. Let me get personal...as a competitor in the Senior Olympics...tract and field, tennis, racquetball...for just the 100M, I train/practice 800 sec. a week, 40,000,000 Mil. a year to win. That is what I need. I am locked in to that number. I have 14 sec. to prove myself. Enough is the unknown number. The math applies to business as well. MOTIVATION

Welcome everyone...the intangible of motivation needs to be understood...in order to attain and maintain "raising  the bar" in our quest for greater degree of success. Most confuse "a bribe" as motivation. Remember back when..."if you mind the baby sitter, I will get you a candy bar." That is a bribe. "If you get a shot, you get a beer." Bribe. Motivation comes from within. One's fulfilment in marriage, profession, status comes from Giving...NOT Taking. Training, exercise, competing...for peak performance driven from within. Boredom, laxation, mistakes are prevented from within. Most of us don't want are lives to be short lived. There are no dress rehearsals in life. Get rid of boredoms in your workouts. HERO

Welcome every one...Simone Biles is this weeks Hero...first women to land a Yurchenko double pike in competition at the U.S. Classic. Viewers only saw the final result. But the coaches and teammates know the whole story...minute by minute...step by step...and yes, some miss steps along the way. Long before that historic moment...Simone visualized herself doing it and getting right. She began to act and behave as though she was already there. The impact Simone had on herself and others was in direct proportion to her own self image. Visualize yourself as already being there...in what ever you endeavor. Routine

 Do not allow your routine to be dull, just a matter of fact. Don't allow yourself just to be "along for the ride." It isn't the routine that is dull...it's you. You can do more than "count to ten." If you can perform  a drill  one way...you can do four ways. Don't limit your thinking. "I wish" my workouts would be more fun. It's not the workouts...it's YOU. Just a guess...there are over 1000,000 drills in our inventory. Every week, find 10...that's 40 drills. Are you more of a person today than you were yesterday? WHY?!

Injury/Healing

Hello and welcome everyone...minor or serious injury will cause a "slow down" in fitness/training agendas...or complete halt. For acute pain...use Arnicare cream. For chronic pain...use liquid Wintergreen or Tea Tree liquid. In working through muscle pulls...blood flow is critical in the healing process. Light stretching, walking, slow jog. The #1 adversity/enemy to training...Time. Time travels only in one direction. You can't make up 'lose of time.' Effects of lost time...crazy stuff. 1) injuries. 2) Indifferent attitude/lazy. 3) Kid being carried in your backpack. 4) using your  phone or any other high tech. These four also puts others at risk.

IMPACT

Hello and welcome everyone...the impact that you and I make in life is in direct proportion to our own self image. Self image...that's the who am I, what am I, and what do I stand for. Participants in my forums and classes...I ask this question right out of the box...who are you, define yourself. I get total silence, coughing, blowing noses and aaahhh. Nothing. Oh, you can describe the person next to you or someone down the street...but you can't describe who you are...yup, the person you have been living with your entire life. My "brand" since the beginning...to "get there, start here. Where is your starting point? Until you know who you are, you will not get there. APPETITE

Welcome everyone... oft times I have drawn the parallel between the sports world and the business world. Muscle memory plays a huge part in both. The quarterback is exposed to that, more so than any other position. Learning a new skill or bettering the old...when the going gets tough, muscle memory kicks in and kicks the brain. The same holds true in business, no matter your profession, title or occupation.. 2) indecision...oops...there goes the confidence. 3) playbook...break down goals by the week or bits/parts. Go beyond just reaching a goal, don't slack off, become satisfied. If you were to climb Mt Everest, you wouldn't keep looking at the peak...no, you would look down at each step. Blindspot/mental fitness

Welcome everyone...when men and women rely on routine/muscle memory, the brain goes numb, weak, mush or soft...when that happens, then we have to work like hell to to regain that mental toughness. When we allow a lazy brain to direct our training/workouts, we fall victim to ourselves. STOP the insanity...prior to every workout, write down every drill you WILL do that day. Then give each drill a performance grade...1) technique, 2)flaws, 3) max, 4) score(1-10). You will know when you are on the right stack, when you begin to trust yourself. Results expected...1)winning attitude, 2) hitting desired stride, 3) creativity takes hold, 4) you get your life back. Blind Spots

Welcome everyone...yes, we all have at least one. Here are two blind spots.  Muscle memory and mental fitness. This week, muscle memory. Memory or a better name, "subconscious memory." act of committing a motor task into memory per repetition w/out conscious thought. Same drill over and over again. So, what's wrong with that? Don't become a robot. Here is the problem...it will hinder/prevent your evolving to other tasks. During rough spots, you will always resort back to your comfort zone...old habits creep in to your program. The key...always evolving up. Jimmy O
